We will be moving around in this class, so bring a yoga mat, flat seated chair, comfortable clothes, and have some space to move around, and be sure that you can see the monitor if we move down to the mat.

Primal Leadership.
Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence
by Daniel Goleman Ph.D
Daniel Goleman's international best seller Emotional Intelligence forever changed our concept of "being smart," showing how emotional intelligence (EI) - how we handle ourselves and our relationships - can determine life success more than IQ. Then, Working with Emotional Intelligence revealed how stellar career performance also depends on EI.
Now, Goleman teams with renowned EI researchers Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee to explore the role of emotional intelligence in leadership. Unveiling neuroscientific links between organizational success or failure and "primal leadership," the authors argue that a leader's emotions are contagious. If a leader resonates energy and enthusiasm, an organization thrives; if a leader spreads negativity and dissonance, it flounders.
Drawing from decades of analysis, the authors show that resonant leaders excel not just through skill and smarts but also by connecting with others, using EI competencies such as empathy and self-awareness. And they employ up to six leadership styles - from visionary to coach to pacesetter - fluidly interchanging them as the situation demands. The program no leader in any walk of life can afford to miss, this unforgettable work transforms the art of leadership into the science of results.

All about X-Rays; What & Why!
It's not always Black and White
Ever wonder what your DVM is looking at on your horse's radiographs or ultrasound? Does it all look like black and white and maybe some shades of grey? In this webinar we will be discussing the basics and differences regarding diagnostic images your vet might use or request, and how imaging is used to determine lameness and even treatment plans. Participants in the webinar are asked to submit an x-ray they may have that we could use in discussion with the group. Kill the lights in your space and prepare for an illuminating evening!

Dr. Kelsey Shacker is a UCVM graduate and practiced in mixed animal medicine before transitioning to a teaching role at Olds College in the Animal Health Technology Program (AHT) in 2016. In the AHT Program, she teaches large animal nursing, hospital management of small animals, surgery and communication skills for veterinary teams. When not teaching, Dr. Kelsey is active in practice seeing clinical cases, performing animal chiropractors, and mentoring students (DVM or RVTs). She is also a sessional Professional Skills Coach with the University of Calgary, Veterinary Program.
When she is asked "where are you, or what are you doing" a normal answer is, "I'm not home right now” or "I'm gone horseback riding, paddling, cross country skiing, or camping" (season dependent). Though if you find one of her horses, usually she is not too far away; Dr. Kelsey is an aviad horsewoman, which isn't season dependent!

Jenifer Parks
In addition to holding an NCCP coaching certificate, B2 standing in Pony Club and a DVM degree Jenifer is a Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology with specialization in Corrective Exercise from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Recently she completed an MSc degree on equine fear learning and unlearning.
Jen has a special interest in how a horse’s physical body interrelates with the behaviours they display. She is frequently called to examine and retrain horses with a history of simply “not working correctly”; or developing odd, often resistant behaviours commonly attributed to lameness, sore backs, dental issues, or poorly fitting saddles. She often finds the horses condition was created or complicated by a lack of correct conditioning in preparation for what they were being asked to do and from the horse and rider carrying themselves in an unbalanced way. Each horse is a puzzle worth solving.
She now operates a training company called Equiletics where she works with riders and their horses to sort through their own physical and mental challenges to improve their relationship and enhance their performance regardless of what their goals might be.

Would Aristotle Ride?
A discussion of the ethics of horse ownership.
We may see the day when riding horses is illegal, and if you think that sounds outrageous go talk to someone in the greyhound racing industry, a Montreal caleche driver or a modern pentathalon athlete. When we fail to do right by our animals (or fail to be SEEN as doing right by our animals) we risk losing our social licence to ride.

Topic: Maximizing Motivation and Flow for Peak Performance with Kylie Bartel
Similar to the “drive” and “draw” energies we use to move horses, people are moved by motivational “pushes” and “pulls”. In order for us to show up as our best selves, we must understand how to harness and shape these motivational forces so that we cultivate more resonance, momentum, and an inner “yes!” to life.
In this seminar, attendees will:
Understand how to harness and shape motivational forces.
Learn practical strategies for maximizing and understanding motivations on a deeper level.
Strengthen their flow with their horses that starts with us.
Topic: Communication Skills that Build ConfidenceConfident dialogue comes from intentional use of communication skills that result in conversations that are proactive and rewarding, even when the topic is not.
In this seminar, attendees will:
Identify communication skills used in dialogue
Discuss techniques to be mindful of each skill
Practice skills in case based scenarios,
Reflect on their learning
Plan for continued practice and development.
Topic: Purpose and Play with Horses with Kellie Leyen
Transferring the ideas and skills from the discussions in our workshops to our work & play with horses. We will put our key learning into action, build relationships with each other, ourselves and our horses.
Activities may include:
